Daily Scintilla – That time of year

Darkness. It didn’t matter how many lights she turned on or how high she built the fire, the darkness outside still weighed on her soul. She waged a silent battle, clawing away just to keep from sliding further into the abyss, but all her family knew was that she was always quiet, this time of the year.

Daily Scintilla – Not not-cats

Peep! Peep! Peep!

Arrek awoke with a start, panting and wide-eyed. “Just the chicks,” he reassured himself.

According to the clock, he had hours left before he needed to wake up, but when he tried to close his eyes, the nightmare came back, with its terrifying sense of imminence. Instead, he sat up and turned on the bedside lamp, then walked around the house turning on *all* of the lights and poking around in closets and cabinets and anyplace that might have hidden one of those… *things.*

Almost forgot I hadn’t done a scintilla yet today! So here’s one, a little later than usual. On another note, the redirect from antheastrezze.com to antheastrezze.com/blog should be working now.

Short Story – Legacy

This week’s story is pretty short, but I hope still interesting. Let me know what you think. :)

Legacy

Lillana sat in a corner by the fire, close enough to warm her aching joints but far enough away that her yarn didn’t singe. She hummed as she knit, drawing magic through her fingers with the yarn and twining it into every stitch of her final project. The midwife attending to her daughter, a sturdy young lady named Ingrid, cast frightened glances at her from time to time, no doubt remembering the healthy, vibrant woman she had been only nine months before.

Daily Scintilla – Stitch-n-Witch

Knit, purl, knit, purl, knit, purl…

Tania hummed while she worked, twining power around the yarn and knitting her spell of protection at the same time as the blanket that would carry it.

Aaaand, it looks like we’re back!

So, it looks like the regular web address now points to my new web-host, so I’m going to guess everything’s all switched over. Let me know if you see anything odd or off though, and I’ll do my best to fix it. :)

Testing, 1, 2, 3…

This post will only appear on the new host. Testing to see if the changeover went ok.

Site Moving!

Hi everyone, this is just a quick message to let you know that I’m changing internet hosts. The web address for the site won’t change, but it’s possible that there will be some downtime. Also, if anything looks wonky, let me know – it might be an artifact of the move.

Thanks!

Daily Scintilla – TMI

“I think I need another high colonic.”

Lily blinked, then looked incredulously at the woman sitting next to her. “Excuse me?”

The woman glared at her, then turned away and lowered her voice. “We’ll have to talk later. There’s some *creep* listening to me.”

I’m the creep? Lily wanted to ask. Instead, she fixed her gaze on the far wall, and an ad for yet another clinical study at Harvard. Don’t make eye contact, and don’t talk to the crazies, she reminded herself. It’s the only way to ride the T.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Your recularly scheduled scintilla has been preempted for this personal message.

So, today is Thanksgiving in the US, our annual day to stop and think about what we’re thankful for. (And eat lots of good food!) I like to think about what I’m thankful for more often than once a year, but even so, Thanksgiving is a good time to publicly *say* what I’m thankful for.

Today, I’d like to say thank you to all of you for reading my stories and scintillas! I’m thankful to those of you who read every one, and also thankful to those of you who read one or two here and there, and I’m especially thankful to those of you who comment and let me know what you liked, or didn’t like.

Having an audience and a weekly deadline has been like magic for me, getting me to finally start writing daily on a regular basis, and forcing me to write a lot of different things rather than simply polishing the same three stories over and over. I’ve learned a lot about both writing and how I write, and I’ve gained a measure of confidence that I don’t think I could have found in any other way.

Thank you, everyone!
