About Me

Hi there, and welcome to AntheaStrezze.com! I’m Anthea Strezze, and for a few years now, I’ve been nurturing the dream of becoming a full-time storyteller, writing science fiction, fantasy and other weird and wonderful fiction. I still have a long way to go, but I am determined to get there!

My mission statement, for this site and for my life, is to nurture a sense of wonder in myself and others through sincerity, questioning assumptions, and story.

Right now, my posting schedule and content are rather free-form and unpredictable because I’m putting a lot of my time and focus into novel-writing, but as you look through the archives, here are some of the features that I hope you will enjoy:

The Story a Week Challenge

Each week in 2010, I wrote a new short story and posted it to this site by midnight on Sunday. Since my personal taste runs to the fantastic and all branches of speculative fiction, that is most of what you will find here – fantasy, urban fantasy, science fiction, horror, and general weirdness.

(Credit where credit is due, this idea was first inspired by reading about Jonathan Coulton’s “Thing a Week” project, during which he produced some awesome songs, including Code Monkey and Skullcrusher Mountain.)

The Daily Scintilla

On May 25th, 2010, I noticed that I was falling into a bad habit of not even starting the week’s short story until Friday, Saturday, or even Sunday. While I was ecstatically happy to be keeping up with the Story a Week Challenge, I also wanted to improve my writing discipline, so I decided that I needed an extra motivation to write *something* every day.

That’s when the Daily Scintilla was born – it’s a way for me to write and post tidbits and snippets, without the time and inspiration needed for a full story. Daily Scintillas might be a scene, or a bit of dialogue, or character description, worldbuilding, or even just a link to something interesting or fun. Through the rest of 2010, I posted scintillas daily, but with my current shift in focus to novel-writing, they have become an occasional rather than a daily feature.

Recipes and cooking (mis)adventures

I enjoy cooking, and I especially enjoy improvising in the kitchen. Once in a while, I will share a recipe that turned out well, or the story of a recipe that turned out hilariously bad!

Pull up a chair, make yourself comfortable! :)

Comments are welcome, whether you like a story (or scintilla, or general post) or not. Feedback on what works for you and doesn’t, what fascinates and bores, and what seems original or trite will be helpful to me as I work to improve my skills, and will help me to make this website more interesting for you!

If you want to contact me outside of comments, feel free to email me.

Thank you for reading!
